The Daily Mile
Bellville Primary School has successfully implemented the “Daily Mile” in 2019.
Background: The ” Daily Mile” was first tested and implemented by a school principal in Scotland.

The purpose fo the “Daily Mile”
- To improve learners’ general health
- To improve learners’ fitness
- To increase learners’ concentration
- To improve learners’ behaviour in general.
The benefits of the ” Daily Mile” :
- Improves health.
- Improves fitness.
- Improves motor skills.
- Improves social interaction.
- Combats unhealthy eating habits.
- Improves behaviour.
- Improves concentration abilities.
- Learners experience success.
- Learners feel better about themselves.
- Learners learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
- Improves spirit.
- Happy learners and educators.
Rules:
- Running daily for 15 minutes around the school.
- Each learner jogs at his/ her own pace.
- Social interaction is allowed.
Safety:
- The route that the learners will be following, has been secured.
- Educators will supervise from strategic positions around the field and some will be jogging along with the learners.
- During rain and very hot conditions the ” Daily Mile” will be cancelled for the day.
- Only the learners whose parents have given their consent, may participate.
The “Daily Mile” has already been successfully implemented in 18 countries.
Bellville Primary was one of the first schools in South Africa to implement this program.
